6 Best Locally-Owned & Family-Friendly Hotels in Salt Lake City, Utah

Spring is coming, and whether you want it to or not, that includes Spring Break! Do you normally travel with your family during spring break?

If you’re looking for a good spot to take your family this spring or anytime of year, Salt Lake City, Utah is a great one! Granted, I may be a little biased because we currently live here, but it is honestly one of the most family-friendly places I have ever been to (and I’ve been to a lot of places!)

Salt Lake City holds an incredible pioneer history, majestic mountains, and a winning NBA team!

While there is so much to do here, you will want to make sure you have a great place to stay at night after exploring all day.

The following are six hotels in Salt Lake City, Utah that I guarantee are perfect for families. They are ordered from cheapest to most expensive, based on the rate of a 2 Queen Bed room.

This post is in collaboration with Emi from She Is Something Essential and Lisa from Planning Away. Check out Emi’s article 3 Children’s Museums in Salt Lake City and Lisa’s article Plan a Spring Break in Utah!

6 Best Locally-Owned and Family-Friendly Hotels in Salt Lake City, Utah

#1: City Creek Inn & Suites

In a motel-like setting with your room door on the outside, you will be very comfortable here. The City Creek Inn & Suites keeps your family in mind with such amenities as a fenced pool/hot tub and a kitchenette in certain non-smoking and family rooms. They even have complimentary breakfasts before you adventure into the city!

Every room holds a mini-refrigerator, and microwaves are available upon request. Plus, if you want to bring your dog you can! Pets are allowed for an extra $10 per pet.

With such a low cost, I don’t necessarily think you are jipped of anything.

#2: Salt Lake Plaza Hotel

Perhaps with the most convenient location right off Temple Square in downtown SLC, the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel feels more like a Comfort Inn or La Quinta. You may be surprised to learn they have a fitness center, concierge service, and a laundry service.* For those looking to settle in a little more, they even have a guest library!

The rooms are easily able to accommodate your family too. Cribs are available upon request and rollaway beds are available for a small fee.

This hotel also has amazing travel deals for exploring. If you book at least a 2-night stay, you can choose to receive a $100 Sinclair gift card or two Connect Passes!

*During non-Covid times, they also offer a complimentary airport shuttle service, indoor jacuzzi, outdoor pool, and a full service restaurant.

#3: The Peery Hotel

You will love this Hilton hotel for its luxury feel and unique history. It was built in 1910 to accommodate those who found success in the mining caves.

Nowadays, The Peery Hotel has more modern amenities like dry cleaning and baggage storage. They also have two higher-end restaurants to choose from after a day of being a tourist.

And if you’re really into history, they try to keep that sense with their decorations and bedroom furniture.

#4: Little America Hotel

  • 2 Queen Bed – Starting from $129

Another place with a great history is the Little America Hotel. The chain was created in 1952 by Robert Holding, a good friend of the Marriott family, and original owner of the Sinclair Oil Company.

This Salt Lake City spot categorizes their rooms into three (from cheapest to most expensive): Courtside, Garden, and Tower. Honestly, every room is amazing and luxurious. (I may be a little biased though – Nate’s uncle is the General Manager here.)

In addition, the hotel includes a fitness room, indoor and outdoor pools, concierge, an everyday gift store, and a boutique gift store.

You can also have your pick of two restaurants. “The Coffee Shop” is one of our favorites, very family-friendly, and you don’t need to be a guest to enjoy!

#5: The Kimball at Temple Square

The Kimball at Temple Square compares to the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel in regards to location, they are both next to Temple Square.

Unlike the Plaza Hotel however, each room in The Kimball comes stacked with a fully stocked kitchen. The accommodations are set up more like apartments so you will probably feel more at home here.

If you are planning on staying in Salt Lake City for a while, The Kimball at Temple Square also advertises for extended stays. Why not elongate your family’s spring break a little?

#6: The Grand America Hotel

You made it to the end! Let me introduce you to the pinnacle of Salt Lake City luxury, which is The Grand America Hotel.

Owned by the same franchise as the Little America Hotel, this is a big step up. Picture marble flooring, huge chandeliers, and live music in the café playing as you enter.

Let me be upfront though, Nate used to work here when we got married so I have the most knowledge of this one. We stayed in an executive suite the night of our wedding, but that’s a story for another time 🙂

Although it’s the most expensive, and you may be afraid to bring your kids who break things, it’s actually very family-friendly. For a simple email in advance, you can have your room already stocked with items such as a crib, Diaper Genie, outlet covers, and even a rocking chair!

The Grand also has a fitness center, indoor pool, spa, multiple boutique gift shops, multiple restaurants, and a kids’ toy store complete with a create-your-own-candy bag experience.

  1. I like that you’ve included locally-owned establishments. The Grand America is my favorite! It’s so fancy, but very family friendly. We love their summer movie series by the pool.

    1. The Grand always makes our family feel like family 🙂 I totally forgot about their summer movie series, but it’s a great addition!

  2. Thanks for such a great list! I definitely agree that the Little America hotel looks really quaint. Caught my eye right away!

  3. I tend to frequent smaller accommodations vs larger hotels when traveling and this is great info! Hope we get out west in the future!

    1. There are definitely perks to both! Sometimes all you need is a good bed at night because you’ll be out and about the rest of the time!
