4 Reasons to Stay at Hotel Weinbauer (Schwangau, Germany)

Germany’s tourism continually seems to increase, and there’s no wonder why. With its green hills, colorful plazas, and exciting history, it is a perfect place to take your family.

We recently went to Germany and had the opportunity to see it from a locals perspective because my parents live there. And honestly, I can’t say enough about it! Germany is one of my absolute favorite places to be; it makes me feel at home even if I don’t speak the language and don’t know where I am most of the time.

One of the first things we did in Germany was drive up to the city of Schwangau, where the famous Neuschwanstein Castle is.

The night before we took the castle tour, we stayed at the cutest German hotel I’ve ever seen – Hotel Weinbauer.

4 Reasons to stay at Hotel Weinbauer

#1: They are Close to Neuschwanstein Castle

The main reason people come to Schwangau, Germany is to see Neuschwanstein Castle as well as the other attractions in the area. Because Neuschwanstein sits on a mountain with no car access, you definitely want to stay close by.

Hotel Weinbauer is less than a 5 minute drive to the castles, which means you could also walk there and be comfortable. We chose to drive to a closer parking lot, but that was only because it was slightly raining off and on that morning. Otherwise, we would have loved to walk!

Not only is Weinbauer close to the castles, but their hotel is situated on a kind of main street. The night we arrived, it was very easy (and fun) to walk up and down the road looking at the other restaurants and stores in the area.

#2: They are Authentically German

I know this one may sound weird because the hotel has to be German since it’s in Germany, but let me explain. A lot of hotels in Europe have been “Americanized” meaning that they have more modern features or amenities. Hotel Weinbauer, however, has stayed classically German.

When you enter your room (which you will do with an old-fashioned metal key), you will notice that your Queen bed is actually two twin mattresses pushed together, which is a very European thing. And instead of closets built into the room like in the states, you will have a wardrobe to hold your clothes.

Even the exterior has flowers hanging under each window sill and paintings on the walls. They really try to keep it like it was when it was built in 1865.

#3: They Have the Best Food

Speaking of things that are German, Hotel Weinbauer has the absolute best German food! They have a little tavern attached to the hotel that serves lunch and dinner.

We stopped by for dinner after arriving. Although their menus are all in German, our waiter spoke English so we could communicate fairly easily. Here’s a tip for you though, “Kleinen Gaste” is the kids menu.

In the mornings, they open their buffet room for a complimentary breakfast. It is delicious! They have an assortment of cheeses, meats, juices, and fresh baked goods. Obviously, we all ate a lot that morning, but it was worth it!

#4: They are Very Kid-Friendly

I was actually very surprised at how receptive they were to Parker and our needs. As soon as we opened our guest room door, we found a crib already set up and ready for Parker!

He was pampered at their tavern, and especially during breakfast. One of their workers immediately retrieved a high chair for him when she saw us walk in to the buffet room. Then, she took away his place setting once we sat down so we didn’t have to worry about him breaking anything.

They did so much for us that by the time we checked out, Parker was saying “Danke!” (That means “thank you” in German.)

As you can tell, we loved our time at Hotel Weinbauer and we can’t wait to go back! They truly make sure every detail of your stay is perfect, including giving each of us a Christmas card with a nice pen inside. How sweet is that?

  1. Enjoyed your post – it was interesting and informative. Neuschwanstein Castle has been on my bucket list for some time now, but Munich is the closest I’ve been. It is good to know that there’s a hotel so close.
